The information seeking behavior of academic library users has drastically changed in recent years. Before the emergence of the internet, library catalogs were the main information seeking gateways. These gave way to Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs), but library users are now predominantly beginning their electronic information searches through search engines. Academic libraries are the ones most affected by this trend, because students and researchers are increasingly using the general internet for their research, and do not end up taking advantage of the quality scholarly information resources in their libraries.
