Welcome to the Guide to Digital Librarianship

This guide has been developed in partnership with Sokoine National University Library – SNAL at Sokoine University of Agriculture – SUA – Tanzania, as a tool to support skills development of librarians, with a particular focus on librarianship in the digital world.

This guide delineates the traditional roles of libraries – Acquisitions and Collection Development, Delivery of User Services (access, searching and browsing), Licensing, Usage and Reporting, Archives and Preservation – and describes the critical ways in which these roles have been transformed, and the new protocols and tools with which these activities are managed in the digital age.

Each component is supported with a comprehensive, step-by-step guide on how to effectively implement Sempertool’s Digital Library Suite (DLS) of technologies (including the Resource Management System RMS) for powerful, simple and effective library resource management and end-user services.
